The National Soccer League Board of Governors held a Special General Meeting at the Sandton Convention Centre today.
The main thrust of the meeting was to determine how the NSL moves forward after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A collective agreement between the Employers Association for the Sport of Professional Football in South Africa and players union, SAFPU, was presented to the meeting. It was agreed that clubs make input on the document and road shows conducted to in an endeavor to fine tune the document.

In an effort to strengthen the League’s Governance framework, Professor Michael Katz was invited to make a presentation on corporate governance and corporatization of the NSL in line with the new companies act as well King 3 especially section 8(3)(A) of the companies act.

Regarding the point of SAFA Constitutional Amendments, this matter was put on hold until further information is received.

Chairman of the PSL, Dr Irvin Khoza, confirmed that there will be an improvement on the National First Division grants.

Khoza also read out a letter from trade union, COSATU, congratulating the soccer fraternity on hosting a successful world cup and calling upon various stakeholders to take forward the positive spirit of the world cup by proposing an eleven point declaration. The PSL was encouraged by this initiative and have mandated the Executive Committee to engage COSATU by way of making inputs on the proposed declaration.
