Mokete Tsotetsi, although later credited as an own goal from Karkee, scored a minute into the refs optional time. It was a crucial goal and may have saved the day but with other results not going AmaZayoni’s way - the scrap to avoid relegation is far from over!
Aces, who started the stronger forcing an early corner, were then awarded two free kicks before "Ace" Bhengu and Lottie Phiri both shot over the top.
Vasco, despite being without regulars Francois Adams, Roberto dos Santos and Angelo Julius, eventually took control of the game and netted the opener in the 20th minute via the boot of Gregory Roelf. The goal came via a great cross from Geofrey Serunkuma.
To their credit, Aces pushed hard for an equaliser with Lottie very unlucky not to finish, as the ball rolled agonisingly past an open goal. Moments later a long high ball from Ronald Mohlaka was screwed wide by Bhengu.
Aces did draw level just before half time through Walter Ramulondi, who substituted Thabang Motau in the 34th minute. The goal came after an error by Vasco defenders.
Two minutes later and just seconds before the halftime whistle, Vasco’s Damian Mitchel grabbed their second immediately. Halftime Vasco led Aces 2-1.
Aces really took the game to Vasco and searched for an equaliser. It looked bleak for AmaZayoni when in the 69th minute, Walter Ramulondi received a second yellow card for a vicious tackle (his first booking from card-happy referee Victor Gomes was for diving in the penalty area).
Gomes himself was involved in a hilarious situation when Vasco wing, Ryan Botha, belted the ball into his back which saw the controversial whistle man fall to the ground winded but he quickly recovered and was later heard saying to Botha: "Relax, you’ve already got me".
Aces pushed hard towards the end and never gave up.
With the fourth official having indicated the two minutes "injury time," a desperate Lottie Phiri was strangely carded for apparently diving during a collision with the Vasco ‘keeper Jason Barnard, up popped Tsotetsi to give his team some hope with two games to go. The goal was listed as an own goal by the match commissioner, Ronnie Johnson – credited to Zeca Karkee.
The point, Aces fifth draw in succession, sees them drop into the "red zone" at number 15 on the log.
