Both Igesund and Komphela have been asked to present a final "pitch" to the executive committee of the South African Football Association on June 30 before one of them is chosen as the new national team coach.
The prospective candidates are to present their vision on the future of Bafana Bafana to the SAFA Technical Committee under the chairmanship of Fanyana Sibanyoni. The other panelists are SAFA’s Technical Director Serame Letsoaka, CEO Dr Robin Petersen, Jomo Sono, Clive Barker, Farouk Khan, Buti Mathathe and Suoane Ramashala and Ted Dumitru. The exercise is conducted under the watchful eye of auditors Ernst & Young.
Igesund, Gavin Hunt, Shakes Mashaba and Neil Tovey appeared before the committee last Thursday and Komphela on Monday. He had to delay his appearance because he was caretaker coach for Bafana Bafana in their 3-0 win over Gabon in Nelspruit on Friday night.
The Safa executive committee is expected to chose from one of the two candidates and the name of the new national team coach could be made public immediately after the June 30 meeting.
Neil Tovey who has fallen out of the race told KickOff.com that he was honoured to have been part of the five selected for the coaching position.
"I have no hard feelings," says Tovey."In fact I feel honoured to have been part of the five coaches interviewed for the Bafana head coach position.
"I still have ambitions of being a Bafana coach one day and will take all the experience gained during the interviews to help me realise that dream," he adds.
