About 500 people attended a memorial service for the popular and well-liked teacher, yesterday afternoon.
Kenneth Rankhumise was born in Ga-Rankuwa township located about 37 km north of Pretoria. He held the position of Principal at the Fountain Primary School in Mooiplaas Farm (Pretoria) before joining Empucukweni Secondary School.
The 63 year old Rankhumise was one of the first teachers when Empucukweni was founded in 1988. He taught Afrikaans at the school and achieved great results between 2004 - 2007 when the language was eventually phased out.
He then took over the English discipline until his untimely death on the 22nd July 2012. The man who was hailed as a strict but soft hearted educator, was about to retire at the end of this year, 2012.
MP Black Aces, who sent representatives to yesterdays memorial, are sponsoring a High School Football League which includes Empucukweni (who currently top group B).
